The World’s Tallest and Longest Launched Wing Coaster to Open in 2025 as part of 50th Anniversary Season
DOSWELL, VA – Kings Dominion, central Virginia’s beloved amusement park, is thrilled to announce the arrival of Rapterra as part of the park’s 50th anniversary season in 2025. Standing at 145 feet tall and stretching 3,086 ft long, this incredible new attraction is the world's tallest and longest launched wing coaster, and promises an unforgettable experience filled with heights, speed and exhilarating maneuvers for all park-goers. Rapterra, inspired by the powerful Jungle Hawk, offers riders the sensation of flight. The adventure begins with a powerful launch, accelerating passengers to 65 miles per hour in just four seconds before ascending to its zenith over the Jungle X-Pedition midway. The ride then plummets into a dive loop, and navigates a series of thrilling aerial maneuvers, including an S-turn, a wing slide, a flat spin, an airtime hill, and a 360-degree raptor roll. The 89-second ride totals three inversions before a smooth return to the station. “We are excited to unveil Rapterra, the must-do ride of 2025, at Kings Dominion,” said Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion. “This extraordinary addition promises new thrills for our guests, making it the perfect centerpiece for our 50th anniversary celebration and reaffirming why Kings Dominion is the ultimate destination for unforgettable memories and exhilarating excitement.” Manufactured by industry leader Bolliger and Mabillard, Rapterra's winged coaster design positions riders on either side of the track, offering an immersive, floorless experience that simulates flying. The basalt grey support columns and patina green track create loops, twists and rolls, ensuring a thrilling adventure from start to finish. Construction of Rapterra is already in progress, with completion expected this fall. The coaster will officially open in 2025, coinciding with Kings Dominion's milestone 50th anniversary celebration. More information on the 50th anniversary celebration will be shared at a later date. In addition, today marks the launch of the 2025 Gold Season Pass at Kings Dominion. Guests who purchase a 2025 Gold Pass will receive unlimited visits and free parking the remainder of the 2024 season, plus the entire 2025 season. Horror Fantasy and Halloween music composers Midnight Syndicate have released their 15th studio album, The Brimstone Club. Featuring the “soundtracks to imaginary films” concept the band helped pioneer, The Brimstone Club blends orchestration and sound effects to take listeners to a shadowy theatre club where the strangeness of its exotic entertainment and libations are matched only by its peculiar clientele.

“The album was inspired by the Parisian Cabaret de L’Enfer, a 19th century hell-themed cabaret that was a forerunner to the haunted attractions and themed restaurants and taverns of today,” said Midnight Syndicate founder and co-composer Edward Douglas.

“Sometimes a piece of history can prove to be every bit as fascinating as anything one might imagine,” added Midnight Syndicate co-composer Gavin Goszka. 

Similar to Midnight Syndicate’s other albums, The Brimstone Club utilizes music and sound to tell a story whose details are left up to the listener. “We hope people are able to listen to it at least once from start to finish in a quiet darkened room. There’s a lot in this world to explore in your mind’s eye,” said Douglas.

​A second break on Carowinds’ popular giga coaster Fury 325 has been discovered.
Channel 9 began investigating a tip Thursday that there may be a second crack in Carowinds’ popular giga coaster Fury 325, but park officials wouldn’t confirm or deny whether that’s the case.
On Friday, the North Carolina Department of Labor confirmed that they were notified of a “weld indication,” which the department said “could be either a break or crack.”

Kings Island amusement park in Warren County announced today its new VIP Lounge opens Friday.
The addition is for Prestige and Prestige+ season passholders. The lounge is located across from the new Enrique’s restaurant by Tower Gardens.
It is billed as a “relaxing retreat” from the midways “with all-day access.” It has grab-and-go snacks, shaded lounge seating and other amenities, park officials said.

A longtime roller coaster at Kentucky Kingdom is being retired.
The days of thrilling riders through loops an drops is over for T-3. Coaster 101 said the theme park announced the decision in an email to annual passholders Thursday.
The inverted coaster opened in 1995 and was originally called the T-2. When the park reopened after a years-long closure, it was refurbished and renamed in 2015.

WEST MIFFLIN, PA

​The Raging Rapids isn’t going away after all.
Kennywood Park announced Thursday that it will bring back the water-based ride in 2023.
“Over the next few weeks, teams will continue to break in and fine tune the ride’s new control system that was installed as part of its refurbishment project,” the park said in a social media post.
“Those refreshed boats look pretty snazzy, too! We’ll share the ride’s exact springtime reopening date once everything is good to go.”

SACRAMENTO, CA

​The “screaming” fun stopped abruptly Monday, but no one was injured, on a roller coaster stuck at Scandia Fun Center in North Highlands, as riders needed a rescue by firefighters. A Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District rescue team brought down a car stranded on an overhead section of track at the 5000 block of Hillsdale Boulevard near Madison Avenue around 6:45 p.m., according to a tweet from firefighters. They shared a photo of a Crazy Dane Coaster green-and-yellow car on the snake-like ride contrasted against the night sky.
