Kings Island, located in Mason, Ohio, was influenced heavily by the Paramount era ownership of the park. From new attractions, to new themed areas, Paramount brought a new flavor to the once flagship park. This drive to bring new experiences with their films brought a new attraction to the park: Backlot Stunt Coaster. Originally called The Italian Job: Stunt Track, Backlot Stunt Coaster was themed to the movie sets created for the Italian Job film. This Premier Rides launched coaster would become an instant hit and would cement itself within the Kings Island coaster lineup.

Riders first enter the Backlot Stunt Coaster queue, winding through various comedic road signs about coaster riders and the coaster experience itself. As riders begin to get closer to the station, they are greeted with a bridge overlooking the coaster as it barrels out of the coaster advertisement. Riders are seated in coaster cars themed to Mini Cooper vehicles, which were used within the film. Backlot Stunt Coaster first whisks riders away at speeds up to 40 mph by a LIM Launch into the helix beneath the parking lot facade. Riders then drop into a small concrete canal littered with cop cars next to shipping containers bobbing left and right around the cars before cresting a left hand curve hill. Riders then drop and ascend below a Beverly Hills sign curving left then right around various signage into a small tunnel themed to be a station tunnel. Backlot Stunt Coaster then ascends left into a mid course brake run in which riders are in a small industrial area surrounded with flammable barrels and a helicopter above. The helicopter proceeds to “attack” the riders as pyrotechnics go off around the riders before one large explosion before them accelerates riders into the tunnel. Riders drop into darkness as they bob around the dark before reascending left into a small brake before dropping below the queue into a small airtime hill which curves left into the final brake run. Backlot Stunt Coaster was one of two coasters to open up in 2005 with the same name and layout, the other being in Canada’s Wonderland.
