Very few coasters opened up when PortAventura Park opened in 1995. As they debuted with new themed attractions and areas, they kept in mind the need for a coaster collection for their European park. They fulfilled the need for a thrilling coaster with the addition of Dragon Khan, but needed another coaster for families. This need was fulfilled with a classic Arrow Dynamics Mine Train, Diablo.
Diablo is a hybrid coaster, meaning that it has steel tubing with a wooden support structure for the coaster layout. Riders first enter the Mexican theme queue before finally entering the station. Diablo begins with a small drop that levels out into a tunnel eventually leading into a left hand curve. This leads into a straight away and another left hand curve into the 53 foot tall lift hill. After cresting the lift, Diablo dips into a straight portion leading into a small declined curve. This curve leads into another curve back up after a small straight portion. Riders then dip down right below the log flume as Diablo then curves back up above the log flume into another curve around. Diablo then hits a brake segment before dipping into another lift hill taking riders up 37 feet into the air. After cresting, riders take another small dip that leads into a declined curve left leading into another curved ascension left. Diablo then levels out into a straight away leading to a right hand curve into another brake run before dipping down then going up another 54 foot lift hill. Riders take a small dip before dropping into the curved right drop. Riders then level out as they go through a tunnel straight section before racing out into another curve around. This leads riders through a shed with El Diablo Tren de la Mina painted on it. Riders then take a few small turns below a trellis and eventually to a brake run leading into a curved right tunnel segment leading to the final brake run. The next time you find yourself in the Mexico area of PortAventura, take on a classic and experience Diablo. |
