I know all you Walt Disney World goers have been wondering where those Hidden Mickey's are. For those of you who don't know a Hidden Mickey
is an image of Mickey Mouse concealed in the design of a Walt Disney World attraction (ride, resort, etc...). Here is a list of some of the
ones I know of:
»MGM Studios
-The Great Movie Ride
•In front of the Chinese Theater, where the stars have signed the names and left their impressions, over on the left hand side you'll find Harry Anderson's Square. There's an outline of a tie, and on the tie is a traditional tri-circle Hidden Mickey.
•There is a hidden Minnie. It is where you load onto the vehicles in the middle of the picture is the biggest house, off to the right hand side is a brown tree stump. Right above the stump is a large black shadow that is the side view of Minnie all in black.
•During the Wizard of Oz, there is a Mickey in the flowers that you see from the second cart. Once you've seen it, you can spot it just going by. This was pointed out to me by a Disney Cast Member.
-Indiana Jones
•The only Hidden Mickey is on the back of the offical cast/crew jackets. It's a embroidered picture of Indy and Marion running from the exploding plane from scene 3 in the show. The flame behind the plane and figures in the picture makes a Mickey-eared shape.
-Star Tours
•In the queue, Mickey can be found on the phone directory sign at front (just inside the building on the right).
•One of the women on the video has two "buns" on her head. Her hair was dark. Together it looks like a Hidden Mickey.
•In the pre-boarding video that is shown, there is a Hidden Mickey. As the video shows the passengers boarding safely and moving all the way across the rows filling all available seats there are three Ewoks getting on the Star Speeder. The second Ewok is carrying a Mickey Mouse plush toy.
-Jim Henson's MuppetVision 3D
•Outside the Muppetvision theatre at Disney is a fountain featuring the muppet characters. Gonzo is balancing on an inflatable toy who's head looks just like Mickey, except the eyes are bulging a bit (but so would yours if Gonzo had his left foot in your back!).
•Lobby Video (preshow) There is a Hidden Mickey in the test pattern as Scooter crosses the screen for the second time.
•When the theater explodes, and Kermit rides in on the fire truck, all the guests that are "outside" are holding Mickey balloons.
-Backlot Tour
•After you exit the water tank show and head towards the queue for the tram (where all the props are located), you will find a refrigerator with a silver tri-circle Mickey painted on it. It's at the end of the first of row, on your right.
•In the Prop area, on the wall were three balls, smaller than bowling balls, in the Mickey format.
•Upon entering the Catastrophe Canyon area the right hand side, there is a cylinder gas can with controls and gauges in the shape of a Mickey.
-Who Wants To Be A Millionaire!
•When you exit the show - through the "backstage exit" ie. where the players go to recieve their prizes - look to the right as you are leaving - you will see a fire extinguisher - the glass on the door of this is a hidden Mickey
-Voyage of the Little Mermaid
•Just before Sebastian comes on stage, the lasers converge above the stage. In the center, just before the lasers turn off, there's the distinctive three circle pattern of a Hidden Mickey.
•The show begins with slides that change into a movie showing the boat coming toward the audience. As the prow dips into a wave for the second time, watch the foam at the prow. As the foam dissipates, a Hidden Mickey is revealed.
-The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
•Entrance area, just before you go inside, on main balcony designs.
•As you approach the elevators that take you upstairs, a Cast Member is stationed at a sort of podium. On this podium is a desk lamp. In the center of the desk lamp on the stem, you will see definite mouse ears.
•The sheet music also has a regular Hidden Mickey in it.
•The bell for the elevator behind Rod Serling is a Hidden Mickey.
•In the Boiler Room, a water stain forms a Hidden Mickey.
•If you take the 'chicken out' elevator exit, look back on the ground behind you. Rope coils on the group in the classic three circles format.
-Rock'n'-Roller-Coaster
•As you enter the G-Force Records lobby, the floor is made of shattered tile of different colors. Just before leaving the lobby, look down. There are two sets of three circle tiles in the hidden Mickey pattern, one in the sand-colored tile, one in the teal-colored tile.
•Each limo has a year sticker on the rear license plate. The year sticker is in the shape of Mickeys head (this replaces the California year sticker)
•On the ride itself, about halfway through, after passing under the "Civic Center/I-5" exit sign and before the "Beverly Hills/I-10" sign, you pass under a scene with a red stretch limo and a cityscape. In the middle near the top of that scene, there is a yellow diamond traffic sign that appears to sport a Mickey.
-Fantasmic
•There is a hidden Mickey formed by the tubes where the water comes out. This is in the big lake, but definately visible, due to it's shallowness, and cannot be easily mistaken.
•The entire mountain of Fantasmic! is said to be Mickey's Sorcerer hat, with the two ear represented in seemingly pointless rock formations on either side. I didn't discover it right off, but I overheard cast members referring to these rock formations as "ears" and made the connection.
Stayed tuned next week for Animal Kingdom!
