Six Flags America Interview with Lahne Mattes-Curry / By: Clint Novak, Monday, March 07, 2005 -
As Six Flags America gets ready for is 2005 season they have announced the largest expansion in the history of its water park. Lahne Mattes-Curry, Public Relations Manager talks with our very own Clint Novak about the new changes. You can listen to the interview here.

Clint Novak: Hey what’s going on its Clint Novak from In the Loop. One of the parks that is just right up the road is Six Flags America, and there getting ready to do a big expansion to there water park and they will also be changing there name to Hurricane Harbor. We have Lahne Mattes-Curry the Public Relations Manager here to talk with us. How are you doing today?

Lahne Mattes-Curry: I am doing just great and your self?

Clint: I am good. I am looking forward to all the coasters opening this month.

Lahne: It will be great. We open April 9th

Clint: Can you tell us whets going on up there? The big expansion for the water park and the new name. Whats going on right now up there?

Lahne: Well we have the water park opening on May 28th. But before that the park will open April 9th for weekends. Then we will move in to the summer phase. We have a lot of things planed for this season. Some of the things we have planned are the Physics, Science and math days for students. We’ve got, the Christian youth group calibration in June. And we have our annual Festival Latino. And on top of that we have the Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, witch is our re-branded water park with two new rides, and a make over for the whole water park. That has not been done since 1995. So this is a huge makeover. If you have been to the water park before you will not even recognize it.

Clint: A lot of Six Flags parks are adding this new water slide called Tornado. This ride is going in your park as well. Would you like to tell us about that?

Lahne: Sure. The Tornado is award winning attraction. Every one here at the park and around the industry is excited for this ride. Tornado resembles a house hold funnel. You start about 75 feet in the air and you get in to a clover shaped tub that will set 4 people. Then you ride down this tunnel and pop out in to the wave pool after you go thro the eye of the storm.

Clint: And also you are receiving another new attraction. The Bahama blast. Want to tell us about that?

Lahne: Sure the Bahama Blast is a new tub adventure. It begins about 55 feet in the air, and you come thro this twisting and splashing along. It dips thro the course and you fall right in to a splash pool at the bottom. It will be a lot of fun also. It goes throw tunnels so some of its dark so you don’t know what to expect.

Clint: All these rides are family oriented rides. The whole family can fit in the Tub and then just throw your self down the slid.

Lahne: Yup that’s exactly what its about. Get the family out and enjoying quality time together. No stress. All play.

Clint: I like that. Is there any new attractions going in to Hurricane Harbor.

Lahne: We also have an interactive area going in. Its called Buccaneer Beach. It will include a pirate ship and some tike water curtains, palm trees. The kids will have a great time in there. Its going to have a hug deck area so parents can have a great time sitting back and enjoy the sun well the kids play.

Clint: I am always up set case I want to go in there and play but they always kick me out.

Lahne: I think they would kick me out to and I want to go to. I guess well just have to sit on the edge and wish

Clint: Well just start steeling kids so we can get in there… I am just kidding. Don’t steel anybody’s kids. Alright all this expansion in the water park, is there anything new going in to the park for the 2005 season?

Lahne: Well were not getting a new ride this year in the park but there will be a lot of events and a lot of talent here for any one who wants to come and enjoy the park it self. There’s no new ride but there will be some new coats of paint on some of the rides. Its going to be a great season.

Clint: Alright well we are all looking forward to the opening on April 9th. Thanks a lot Lahne.
