Life & Times of a Six Flags Employee: Part I - Getting The Day Started
Life & Times of a Six Flags Employee: Part I - Getting The Day Started / By: Keenan Westcott, Tuesday, May 03, 2005 -
Known as one of the most popular and successful parks in the Six Flags chain, Six Flags Great Adventure delivers again this year with the opening of their new ride, Kingda Ka. Even though the opening date has been pushed back to June 2010 for Kingda Ka, it still remains the most anticipated ride of 2005. Sorry, Mr. Six's Pandemonium didn’t make the cut.

Many people go the park time after time, having fun and enjoying themselves, but what about the people behind the park? The employees, what about them? Today, I take you through a typical day as a Six Flags Great Adventure ride operator at Superman: Ultimate Flight. Enjoy.

7:30 AM – Wake up and eat the year old Fruit Loops you have in your refrigerator.

7:40 AM – Take shower using the same soap bar that your mother, father, sister and brother used already this morning. Sucks to be the last one to get dibs on the shower right?

7:55 AM – Finish the last five minutes of some stupid Keanu Reeves movie you were watching last night.

8:00 AM – Beg to God for the five minutes back that you just wasted watching the last five minutes of a Keanu Reeves movie you were watching last night.

8:05 AM – Leave house and get in car. Stop at gas station before you hit the highway.

8:10 AM – Gas station attendant reminds you that you forgot to put pants on this morning. Once tank is filled up, you head back home to look for the pants you thought you were wearing.

8:30 AM – Hit the road! You’re on your way to work! Flip off a couple people on the highway, not because they cut you off driving, just because you feel you haven’t given the finger to anyone in a long time.

9:00 AM – Arrive at work, and get stopped at the staff security gate for trying to bring in a camera to take pictures of random stuff to put up on your website when you get home. Hm…

9:05 AM – Perform “Holla Back Girl” by Gwen Stefani to distract security guard as you bring in camera and slowly walk away saying, “B-A-N-A-N-A-S!”

9:20 AM – Clock in and realize you were supposed to be clocked in by 9:00 AM.
9:25 AM – Start walking toward ride, as you’re walking, you realize Spongebob 3D has a new entrance sign or something. You rush to get your camera out only to drop it on the ugly blue pavement where it immediately bursts into flames which screws you out of a camera for the update you want on your website. *Breaths*

9:30 AM – Arrive at Superman: Ultimate Flight where your co-workers have already begun the daily tests needed to be done before the ride can be opened. Your co-workers begin yelling at you for being late.

9:45 AM – Daydream about Jessica Simpson.

9:46 AM – Co-workers continue to yell at you.

10:00 AM – Park opens! Let the day begin!

Tune back Wednesday, May 11, 2005 for Part 2 of 3 of Life & Times of a Six Flags Employee where we will focus on what it's like to work while the park is open for guests. Part 3 will focus on ending the day as an employee at Six Flags.
