Fifty Years of Magic
Fifty Years of Magic / By: Josh Davidson, Friday, May 06, 2005 -

To all who come to this happy place: Welcome.
Disneyland is your land. Here, age relives fond memories of the past,
and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.
Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts
that have created America, with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.

- Walt Disney
Disneyland Opening Day
July 17, 1955

Once upon a time, there was a man who dreamed that adults and children could have fun together. Walt Disney loved dreaming of stories and characters and making them come to life. After he died, his brother Roy kept one of his biggest dreams alive: he made sure Walt Disney World would stay alive. Roy was the one who wanted Disney World to be named Walt Disney World for everyone to know it is Walt's world.

As many of you know, Disney parks around the world are celebrating fifty years of Disney theme park magic; magic that all started at Disneyland with one man's dream. With the anniversary going on, Disney decided to start the Happiest Celebration on Earth. What is it? All of the Disney parks around the world are stepping it up a bit by bringing new rides to their parks around the world. From the introduction of Walt Disney World's Soarin' (a concept originally from Disneyland California Adventure), to Walt Disney World Animal Kingdom's newest roller coaster Expedition Everest under construction for next year.

Starting May 5th, many updates to the parks will start happening with new shows and rides. Disneyland started taking photos and making a giant picture with these and a new attraction at Disney parks called One Man's Dream which takes visitors through the life of Walt Disney while seeing many pictures and video's of Disney parks' past.

Just think... Fifty years all because of a man with a dream. A lot more than just new rides are coming to the Disney parks... How does an entire new theme park sound? In Hong Kong? Hong Kong Disneyland is Disney's newest park. It may be small for Disney parks, but it will be opening with great expectations. The original Disneyland in California also redoing their Cinderela Castle just for the celebration. Also Space Mountain at Disneyland has been completely rebuilt. Nothing like fifty years of magic, is there?

Expedition Everest will be the tallest roller coaster at Walt Disney World. Riders will be on expedition through Mount Everest whille being chased by a yettie. Also Paris is carshing in with a big blast with the new show Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show, or for the little ones Cinderlabration in which guests see Cinderela get married! From California comes Soarin'. Have you ever hang glided? Well, now people who go to Walt Disney World can!

Radio Disney is also doing big things for the celebration too, broadcasting live from Walt Disney World while giving out free tickets to the park. Walt Disney World and the rest of Disney theme parks are expanding their parks for this along with adding another theme park to their collection for the occasion.

Most who have been to a Disney park will know that one needs more than just a day there. More like a week? Perhaps. But, with this going on, visitors can try the new Magic Express! Why not take a plane to Florida and get a personal ride to your hotel room, and what better than letting them put away your luggage for you so that you can go staright to the park?

Hong Kong Disney is the next Disney Theme Park. Featuring the classic Main Street U.S.A, Tommorowland, and Fantasyland, Hong Kong Disneyland will open September 12, 2005. The park will feature huge themeing with great scenery and rides including a high-tech Space Mountain.

Disney Theme Parks are known thoughout the world today all because of the dream that Disney had so long ago. Now we can just wait to see what Disney has in store for us in the years to come.
