Fire in the Hole
Specific Type: Dark Ride
|
Hidden away in the heartland of Missouri is one of the best theme parks in the region, Silver Dollar City. Silver Dollar City has been the destination for some of the best, well themed thrills, one of the first being Fire In The Hole. Having its debut in 1972, it has been known for it’s great use of theme, and the use of this theme to place various drops throughout the coaster. From the dark ride-coaster mix, to the iconic splash down ending, Fire In The Hole is a memorable coaster.
Fire In The Hole starts riders off in a peaceful setting, with crickets chirping and trees around, nothing can go wrong, right? Instantly riders are taken into a burning town, meandering through the streets in panic. While the town is on fire, some of the animatronics serve as foil as they comedically try to escape their homes. As riders leave the town, they are greeted with the Baldknobber Camp, a cave setting that is almost nearly dark. Bat’s eyes are noticeable on the ceiling and with barely anything to see, it becomes one of the darker points in the dark ride. Upon exiting the cave riders see an exposed area, with a burning bridge to their right. With a sign of the bridge directly ahead, riders take the plunge under a scene of a burning bridge. Riders are instantly transported to a hanging scene, one of the more gruesome scenes in the attraction. As riders leave this scene, they hear the faint sounds of a train approaching. In an instant, the train lights emerge as the train is hurdling at the riders, which leads into the second drop of the attraction. The end of the hill has the classic “Fire in The Hole!” exclamation, next to a burning building. This takes riders into the final drop with the splash down, an iconic element on this coaster taking riders back into the station. This coaster relies heavily on it’s theme to carry on the story and the elements of the coaster. As well, to show riders a plethora of scenes while still keeping the coaster element. Most notably this coaster will become the base coaster model for the sister coaster in DollyWood, Blazing Fury. Whenever you are in Branson Missouri, and if you are looking for a coaster in a dark ride, hop into Fire In The Hole. |
