Parc Astérix, a French park dedicated to a classic cartoon of Astérix, has created a name for itself as a French thrill park. However, the beginnings of the park created what it is today. By the tradition the park created by intertwining the cartoons with real life thrills, Parc Astérix has become the French park many know today. This all cumulated to the opening of Parc Astérix in 1989 to bring these two forces together into one park.
However, to kick off the thrills was one Vekoma to be themed to the Vikings, Goudurix. Located in The Vikings area, Goudurix is a Vekoma Custom MK-1200 that opened with the park in 1989. Riders first will meander the queue, to the station that is themed to be a Viking Longship. After riders are seated, Goudurix takes off from a hole in the ship into a small dip into the 118 foot tall lift hill. This leads into a small dip followed by a turn left into the 108 foot tall drop reaching speeds up to 56 mph. Riders then ascend into the Butterfly element leading into the Batwing element over the lake. Goudurix continues the volley as it enters into a loop that leads out of the water. Ascending the next hill, riders then make a drop in the curve as Goudurix leads into the Double Corkscrew element. Goudurix will continue into a curve around segment that will lead into a brake run. This brake run takes riders into the final curve, into a straight segment that leads to a hill into the final brake run. Goudurix is based off of the Vikings searching for fear, and the coaster itself to face that search for fear for the opening of Parc Astérix. When you find yourself in the mystical land of Gaul, don’t forget to face your fears and take on Goudurix at Parc Astérix. |
