Hoot 'N' Holler
Specific Type: Tivoli Small
|
Hoot 'N' Holler was the first roller coaster that opened at Darien Lake and is an original attraction from when the park opened in 1981. The ride is a Zierer Tivoli Small Model with an oval layout, was originally called the Ladybug Coaster and installed by the Big Wheel. The ride has been renamed several times over its stay at the park. In 1988 the ride was renamed Nessie The Dreamy Dragon and moved to the newly created kid zone called Adventure Land for Kids, that was themed to dragons. This coaster really gets around because it was moved again over by the Mind Eraser in 1997. This move brought a new name, Brain Teaser, complete with a paint job that mirrored the Mind Eraser. It was rethemed and renamed again in 2012 to Hoot & Holler, complete with another new paint job. The location stayed the same this time but it became part of a rethemed kid zone called Rowdey’s Ridge, and became an owl themed coaster to match the other forest animal themed attractions.
The youngest thrill seekers at Darien Lake pile into the owl themed train with five cars, each containing two seats. The ride is dispatched to the booster wheel lift hill that brings the train to the highest point, about 10 feet tall. The train glides back down in a gentle banked at 16 MPH turning around the oval rising up and banking back down. The track is just under 200 feet long but the coaster is typically sent through the circuit several times before using the lift as a brake and then the train will settle backwards into the station. Hoot & Holler is a great stepping stone to get young kids excited about more daring rides. |
