Jaguar!
Specific Type: Tivoli
|
A relatively simple roller coaster that is suitable for the entire family is Jaguar!, located at the nearby Los Angeles Park, Knott's Berry Farm. Jaguar! has been operating since 1995 and part of it runs right through the middle of the loop on Montezooma's Revenge, another Knott's roller coaster that was built way earlier in 1978. Jaguar! is actually pretty spread apart and has a fairly large footprint. Most family style coasters are pretty compact and take up very small space, but Jaguar! takes up quite a bit of space in the park with its long straight-aways, wide turns, as well as its two lift hills.
The second lift hill of Jaguar! is actually fairly close to the park entrance and just off to the right a bit, but the main lift hill straight out of the station is a bit more of a walk in the same direction. This is located in the northern part of the park near La Revolucion, the park's swinging spinning ride. Jaguar! is over a half mile in length at 2,602 feet long, reaches a top height of sixty-five feet, and gets riders up to a max speed of thirty-five miles an hour. The ride is longer than usual for a family style coaster which runs right at two minutes from start to finish. The steel-sit down coaster built by Zierer and manufactured by Ing-Buro Stengel GmbH consists of two fairly long trains that each have fifteen cars. Each car consists of one row, where riders are able to sit two across, making each train accommodate up to thirty guests per ride. With this, Jaguar! is able to hold a high hourly rider capacity of around 1,800 riders per hour. Straight out of the themed station, guests are taken up the sixty-five foot tire-driven lift. Once at the top and enjoying a brief view of the nearby highway that borders the north part of the park, the track curves down and leftward, around 180 degrees. Once completing this, the train makes a much sharper 270 degree turn upward and to the right, going right by the station, then making another ninety degree turn rightward, now paralleling the nearby Montezooma's Revenge. After a decent straight-away, the trains make a ninety degree turn to the left cruising right through the center of Montezooms's Revenge only loop, and then another immediate ninety degree turn to the right. The track makes a few brief S-turns back and forth, each of about thirty degrees or so, until making a 180 degree turn into the coaster's second lift hill. The train makes it about halfway up the lift with the momentum it already has from the first part of the ride, but the tires catch on and take the train up the rest of the way once needed. The second lift hill is also shorter than the first one from the very beginning. Once at the top of the second lift, a slow and flat ninety degree turn to the left leads riders into a very long and straight twenty degree drop. A shorter upward hill immediately follows, leading into a turn-around section, where the trains loop around and come back, paralleling that same long straight-away section experienced moments before. Once back by the second lift hill, the course takes a nice wide ninety degree turn to the right. A wide 540 degree helix to the left follows, which is the final part of the ride. After the helix is the break run, which is directly under Jaguar!'s track from early in the ride right before it went through the center of Montezooma's Revenge's loop. A small and slow leftward S-turn leads the trains from the break run back into the loading station. |
