Kiddy Coaster
Specific Type: Wooden, Kiddie
|
Let’s get one thing out of the way before we start, adults are not allowed to ride the Kiddy Coaster. That is right if you are not between 36” and 55” you cannot ride, not with a child, not on a slow day, you cannot ride. Still in? Good, because the Kiddy Coaster is an original roller coaster that was installed when Playland Park first opened in 1928. This classic coaster has been honored by ACE, and has awarded Coaster Classic Status. This distinction is currently (2017) only awarded to 32 coasters worldwide, and can be rescinded if the ride or operations change. They layout is very simple it is a long oval shape with a series of dips, the track and support structure is surrounded by a whimsically colorful fence. Under the lift hill is a passage where guest can pass through into the infield of the coaster. The entire infield is the home to kiddyland an area of the park that hosts the youngest guests to kids flat rides. This placement makes the flats and roller coaster more exciting for children as there is an interplay are these rides pass one another.
Guest board the trains supplied by National Amusement Device Company, these trains replaced the originals but have all the classic features. There are three cars per train, with two across seating in single rows. The trains themselves are covered with stainless steel, and feature a grill on the front. Perhaps it was thought that is what trains would look like in the future, from the past. The ride experience is a series of short hills wrapped around that long oval layout. Now the riders are maybe ready to try some more daring rides. |
