Vortex at King's Island Reopens

Vortex is running strong once again.

August 6, 2011 - biZarRo

Mason, Ohio - Vortex is now open for business as usual again! The ride has been closed for a little over a month now when its chain broke on July 1st, just as a train full of riders was about to make the first drop over the lift hill. Riders were evacuated and another chain was ordered while the process of removing the train and the chain from the lift hill, and separating them began. The park was able to remove the train and replace the lift hill's chain just in time for the big tourist months of August and September.

Vortex is located in the very back of the park, nestled in a corner between Beast, the longest wooden coaster in the world, and the newly built WindSeeker, one of four 300' Wave Swingers built for Cedar Fair. The ride opened in 1987, setting two world records which were held for a short amount of time. It was the first coaster in the world to feature six inversions and was also the tallest coaster in the world. Both of these records were topped the next season when Six Flags Great America built Shockwave, the first of the Arrow 7 Inversion Triplets for Six Flags. Although two of those triplets have been closed and will never be in a park again, Vortex still keeps running.
