Progess Being Made for Louisville Park
May 3, 2012 - Tori Finlay
Louisville, Kentucky -
© Bluegrass Boardwalk, IncLeaps of progress are being made towards opening Bluegrass Boardwalk. This past week, the Koch family who make up Bluegrass Boardwalk, Inc not only set goals for the next ten years, but also got approval to help reimburse them for their financial investment.
The company's goals for the park revolve around not just opening next year, but staffing, marketing, and revenues as well. According to WFPL, a Louisville news station, the company hopes to see, from 2013 to 2022, attendance going from 600,000 to 732,000 and revenue going from $880,000 to $1.8 million.
Other ten year increases include jobs going from 25 full time and 805 seasonal to 43 full time and 976 seasonal. This would include a $1.4 million increase in payroll over the next ten years.
For 2013, the park intends to open in May and stay open 106 days. The freebies of Holiday World, including free sunscreen, soft drinks, and inner tubes will be available. Bluegrass Boardwalk, Inc intends to invest $15.6 million of their own money to revitalize the park.
With such investments, as COASTER-net reported not so long ago, the company had been seeking tax incentives in the hopes of alleviating such a financial burden. This past week, that wish was granted.
Towards construction materials and building fixtures, Louisville's Courier Journal reports that Bluegrass Boardwalk was approved for over $17,000 in sales tax rebates by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority.
This approval came not long after other good news. The Kentucky Tourism Development Finance Authority had given preliminary approval on tourism tax credits just the day before, according to Louisville's Business First Journal.
With the preliminary approval, Bluegrass Boardwalk may be eligible to receive $3.9 million once it opens the park. First, though, the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet must conduct a two month study into Bluegrass Boardwalk's economic impact.
