South Jersey Bomb Threats Force Evacuation

June 26, 2012 - Coasterholic14

Clementon, New Jersey - Guests enjoying their day at a small amusement park in southern New Jersey found themselves facing a scare that they probably never expected last week. Last Thursday, a bomb threat was called in on Clementon Amusement park and its Splash World water park. As a result, both parks were forced to shut down and evacuate a total of around 5,000 people.

On Thursday, Cumberland Regional High School received a call from a man who said he was following a Cumberland Regional school bus on its way to the park. He made no threats according to police, but then called the park and threatened to hurt visitors of the park, as reported by NJ.com. No specific bomb threats were made, but police felt that was implied so they had the parks evacuated and brought in K-9 units to help search as a precaution.

NJ.com found out that police were able to trace his calls to a pay phone in nearby Bridgeton, and According to ABC Action News, police and investigators were able to get a description of the suspect and vehicle information from surveillance videos. A short time later, the vehicle was found and the suspect, Darnell Loatman, age 22, was arrested in a locale near Bidgeton, New Jersey. Loatman was also apparently responsible for a bomb threat on the Cumberland Regional High School on June 7. He now resides in Cumberland County Jail with a $100,000 cash bail ($50K for each threat) for two counts of false public alarm and two counts of terrorist threats.
