The park now owns a Guinness World Record
Liseberg has just broken a Guinness World Record. No, they didn't build a new record breaking coaster. Instead they rallied together people from all over the world to break the world record for most nationalities on a theme park ride.
In order to break the record the park needed to have riders from 50 different countries riding Liseberg's Ferris Wheel. According to Cision Wire the park smashed this number as riders from a total of 72 nations were on board the attraction at the same time. The record breaking attempt was witnessed by Guinness World Records representative, Annabel Lawday.
The park is relied on players from the Gothia Cup, Meet the World tournaments, and citizens of Gothenburg. The Meet the World tournaments are qualifying tournaments for the Gothia Cup and will be held in 24 different countries around the world.
In a quote posted by the Gothia Cup website Dennis Andersson, General Secretary of Gothia Cup, said, "By bringing different nationalities together on one ride we want to show our borderless world and our common responsibility for its future, regardless of nationality, religion, sex or color."
Using guests to break world records is becoming a common theme amongst amusement parks. Just last year Cedar Point, Worlds of Fun, Carowinds, and Knott's Berry Farm broke world records in categories including beach balls, can pyramids, and even Easter eggs.
