Two guests have filed a lawsuit against Universal Studios Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Times. The two men who filed the suit were not allowed to ride the park's only coaster, Revenge of the Mummy, due to the fact that they were missing limbs.
The two men are Angel Castelan and Marvin Huezo. Castelan had his arms amputated following an electrical accident when he was a child. Huezo lost his legs due to a car accident. Both men were denied the opportunity to ride Revenge of the Mummy when they attempted to ride the coaster in 2011.
Castelan said that he is a fan of Universal Studios Hollywood and that he had ridden the coaster in the past without problems. However, he had his first issues in October 2010 when the ride operators would not let him ride because he would not grip the safety bars.
The suit was filed last month in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. The suit claims that not allowing the men to ride was a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. A Universal Studios Hollywood spokeswoman said the park does not comment on pending litigation.
When the two men were barred from the ride in 2011 the ride operators claimed that it was due to a new policy that required that all riders have at least one hand and one leg in order to be able to ride.
One of the goals of the suit is to get a judge to order the park to change policies regarding access to the coaster by amputees. It also asks for other fixes to be made to make the park more handicap accessible. Compensation for unspecified damages is part of the suit as well.
