On Satruday, July 21st at 9:24 PM, King Dominion’s medical technicians responded to a call from Dominator’s ride operators after a passenger was found unresponsive after her ride. The rider, 48 year old Denise King of Pitt County, North Carolina, was transported to Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

The roller coaster was shut down after the incident so that a full investigation could take place to make sure that the ride was operating within normal parameters. Gene Petriello told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that after multiple inspections, no operationional or mechanical problems were found with the ride, and the ride was cleared to resume regular operation as of Monday July 23rd.

Dominator is a B&M floorless coaster located at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia. It has been operating there since May of 2008 after it was relocated from Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom in Aurora, Ohio. Riders experience g-forces up to 3.8 g’s and 5 inversions during their ride of approximately two minutes. It is given a 5 on the park’s thrill factor, giving it the category of “Aggressive Thrill.”

WCTI12.com reports that Denise King died from a brain aneurysm caused by a pre-existing medical condition. She was the first student at Pitt Community College to receive a degree in Fine Arts, had been accepted into the ceramics program at ECU, and is survived by her husband and five children.
