A gas leak lead to the evacuation of a park restaurant.

Universal's Islands of Adventure had a bit of a scary moment last week as a gas leak lead to the evacuation of one of the park's restaurants. No guests were injured in the incident, but three park workers were taken to the hospital.

The leak occurred around 2pm last Wednesday at the park's Captain America Diner according to Orlando's News 13. Orlando firefighters responded to the leak and the restaurant remained closed for the remainder of the day following the evacuation. Following an investigation it was determined that the restaurant was all-clear to re-open as usual on Thursday.

According to WFTV the gas that was leaked was determined to be freon. This gas was being used as a refrigerant. The gas began leaking during a repair to the Captain America Diner. Crews turned off the gas valve in the back of the park following the incident according to Click Orlando.

Three park employees were taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital following the evacuation. According to WFTV as many as six other employees were treated on site in the park and did not require hospitalization. The employees were released from the hospital later that day.

Exposure to freon in high concentrations and for long durations can cause several side effects including cardiac arrhythmia and palpitations according to Environment, Health and Safety Online. Also, freon does not have serious long term health consequences since it passes through the body quickly and does not significantly accumulate.
