© Cedar FairIt is indeed that time of the year again, the time in August when we hit the end of a financial quarter and get to review the results. Cedar Fair made their announcement just a few days ago regarding their second quarter results for the 2012 season, and the results look very promising. Cedar Fair announced in their press release on August 9 that their second quarter (which ended July 1, 2012) saw record results.
The company saw its revenues rise $21 million, roughly 3% higher than this time last year. Further, the park looks to be on track to increase its net revenues over the course of the full year. Matt Ouimet, President and CEO of Cedar Fair stated, “We are pleased with our record second-quarter results and the traction we have gained on our FUNforward growth initiatives.” FUNForward was an initiative presented by the company in January, which addressed his plans as CEO ranging from increasing the quality of food, to utilizing Fast Lane options, “testing” attractions before rolling them out to other parks (i.e. Dinosaurs Alive!, WindSeekers), and layout out the company’s future plans.

Ouimet attributed this to the new rides and attractions bringing in new guests, and the offerings of some of their “premium benefit” programs and new e-commerce platform, which eliminates the need to carry cash around the parks.
Cedar Fair net revenues for the quarter increased for the second quarter to $357.6 million, up from last year’s $284.5 million, but with an extra week included in the quarter close in 2012. Still, adjusting that for equal time period, the park is seeing a 6% increase in those revenues, a 3% increase in attendance, a 3% increase in per-capita spending, and a 7% increase from out-of-park revenues.
With the addition of such major attractions as the 306-foot-tall Leviathan coaster at Canada’s Wonderland, Kings Island’s addition of Soak City, and the countless other additions at all the Cedar Fair parks, Ouimet feels there is nothing but a positive outlook for the future. He stated, “We are committed to providing our guests with the ‘best-day-of-the-year’ experience…we continue to send our guests home happy and looking forward to a return visit.” With rumors of a potential B&M Wing Rider on the horizon for Cedar Point and many other announcements likely to come in the coming months, there is no reason to think the upswing won’t continue.
