After nearly two years of rumors, it looks like Wallace & Gromit are finally making their way over to Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 2013. The iconic British duo will soon be the stars of their very own attraction at one of Britain’s most notorious parks with a ride on the Thrill-O-Matic

Thrill-O-Matic will be a family-friendly dark ride approximately four minutes in length, and will send riders through key moments of A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave, and A Matter of Loaf and Death, the four short films which have made the characters famous since 1989. Amanda Thompson, managing director for Pleasure Beach, said “Wallace & Gromit are national treasures and to have them here re-affirms our commitment to attracting families back to the resort for what we hope will be A Grand Day Out!”

Built at a cost of £5.25 million, Wallace & Gromit’s Thrill-O-Matic comes to the park to replace the classic Gold Mine ride, which was closed in 2011. The ride, which took guests through scenes of a gold rush era mine, had been operating at the park for four decades since it opened in 1971. The new ride will apparently reuse the same track that Gold Mine used, but with the gold mine scenes now replaced with Wallace & Gromit characters and scenes.

According to Theme Park Tourist, the ride is being constructed in part using the £5 million the park was awarded from the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership as part of the Growing Places fund in the UK. At the time they first applied for the loan back in June, the park had not yet given any indication what they might use it for, but a potential Wallace & Gromit attraction seemed to top the rumor lists. Talks between Nick Park, creator of the characters, and Blackpool Pleasure Beach began back in December 2010 with hoping to bring in a “family friendly” experience utilizing them.
