Fans have been wondering what new haunts Halloween Horror Nights would be getting for this season and at midnight on Thursday Universal Orlando unveiled their first, Cabin in the Woods. The film that is the inspiration for this haunt was co-produced/directed by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard. Both Whedon and Goddard had hoped that eventually this movie could be translated into a haunted attraction. According to Fox News, Goddard said, "It was certainly always the dream. I don't know how far we thought the reality would go. But we always wanted 'Cabin' to take on a life beyond us. It just felt like such a rich universe where people can drop in and have their own fun."
The haunt itself will follow a similar story to that of the movie. However, the guest moving through the haunt will not reprise the roles of unsuspecting college kids but rather that of new hires to the cabin in which the movie is set. The haunt will host a number of different characters including Hell Lord, the Dollfaces, the Sugarplum Fairy, the Doctors, Merman, a unicorn, and of course zombies. According to Mike Aiello, creative director for HHN, he chose "the ones that are seen the most in the movie, the ones that stuck out most to the fans." Both Goddard and Whedon are very pleased with the plans Universal has created for this haunt. Goddard himself is so pleased that he may get involved in the action himself by dressing up and scaring guests when the haunt opens. He says, "I'm too excited by it. I can't believe this is happening. I'm just so happy that the film has continued to live on." Halloween Horror Nights begins at Universal Orlando on September 20th.
