Bizarro Stikes!:Medusa along with Superman: Ride of Steel have both undergone notable transformations and as of 2009, will be known as Bizarro. |
Most locals to Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey and Six Flags New England in Massachusetts have noticed some noticable changes to their star attractions.
Late in the 2008 season, both were undergoing paint jobs unrecognizable to what they were originally. Medusa became blue while maintaining the violet supports, while Superman: Ride of Steel became purple with its original blue supports. Various outlets told of audio systems to be added to both as well as special effects similar to what Six Flags did with X2 at the Magic Mountain property.
It was recently announced that both would recieve the name Bizarro, a villain portrayed often in the Superman comics. This goes against many speculations that Lex Luthor, a more well known villain often portrayed in the movies, would have some referrence in the theming of Medusa and the Ride of Steel. Both are set to open on Memorial Day.
As the original versions, Medusa was Bolliger and Mabillards first floorless model, at 142 ft in height, a top speed of 61 mph, and 7 inversions. Superman: Ride of Steel is one of Intamins hypercoasters, with a 221 ft initial drop, top speed of 77 mph, and with just over a mile of track. Superman has also appeared numerous times in the top 2 of most coaster polls and coaster reviews.
