Sometimes when you hail a cab you can get a ride you weren’t expecting, especially when the driver is a grouch. Sesame Place, outside of Philadelphia, has hired just that kind of driver for the 2018 season, Oscar the Grouch. They have created a family wooden roller coaster themed after a crazy ride with Oscar at the wheel. The park tapped Gravity Group to design their Oscar themed roller coaster. Gravity Group has worked on a wide variety of projects, and have been very successful scaling down wooden roller coasters so that the whole family can enjoy them. Since this park caters to younger guests and not extreme thrill seekers this is a perfect match.
The ride begins with a gentle climb up the 40 foot tall lift hill. At the top the track does a turn around giving guest a full view of the layout before gliding down the main drop. The train bounds over two straight airtime hills, and then turns to the left. The track banks and hops to the right and the train enters a tunnel continuing to bank around to the right. The train emerges into the daylight and then negotiates a series of four airtime hills. The train banks around to the right and does a few swerves and bounds into the break run to conclude the 1,200 foot long circuit. Don’t forget to pay your fare and tip Oscar. |
