At the time of Coney Island and many other top of the line amusement resorts, beach boardwalks were starting to develop a new thrill sensation for their guests also. In 1809 Daniel B. Trimper and his wife purchased two hotels on the Ocean City boardwalk. After a receiving hurricane damage in 1900, the one resort was remodeled to include an amusement park. From there the tradition continued.
In 1902, Trimper’s purchased a Herschell-Spillman Company carousel. This carousel was 50-feet in diameter. The ride is still a special addition to the park because at the time this carousel was only the second one from the company. The first carousel operating at Coney Island in New York. The ride had many different figures besides horses. There were cat, dog, frog, rooster, deer, goat, lion, tiger, ostrich, pig, dragon and more.
Through the years, Trimper’s added many rides that had historical significance. In the 1950’s the park expanded outside and expanded with a new ride almost ever year. In1986 the park added its most poplar ride to date, the Tidal Wave. Tidal Wave is a standard Vekoma Boomerang that sends riders through three inversions both forwards and backwards.
Trimper’s Ride and Amusements contain many rides for all ages. Some rides for the older members are the Inverter from Chance, Tilt-a-Whirl from Sellner, Toboggan from Chance, and Zipper also from Chance. The park also contains a number of medium sized rides that the whole family can enjoy. They include an Frog Hopper from S&S, Rockin’ Tug from Zamperla, and Merry Mixer.
