On June 22, 1998, Premier Parks purchased yet another park to add to their growing collection of parks worldwide. Hailed as Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, it was located in Louisville, Kentucky, and became the 9th park to use the famous Six Flags name. Premier had made a magnificent choice when they acquired the park: Not only had this park been located in a perfect, thriving urban environment, it had already established itself as high-class theme park. Formerly known as simply Kentucky Kingdom, the park already had a vibrant assortment of rides, such as the ingenious Chang, a stand-up roller coaster from the brilliant minds of Bolliger and Mabillard, and T2,
a thrilling clone of the popular Suspended Looping Coaster model designed by Vekoma. But what really was direly in need of was a thrilling, wooden masterpiece that could outwit any other ride in the park.
And what a wooden masterpiece they got; after signing a deal with Custom Coasters International, the wooden coasters were definite additions for the 1998 season, opening together on June 20th, 1998 as the Twisted Sisters. The ride kept the name for three more consecutive years until a rock group, Twisted Sister, threatened to sue Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom for stealing the name, which had been copyrighted.
Twisted Twins was closed at the end of the 2007 season and the trains were sent to Six Flags St. Louis. The ride still remains SBNO with the rest of the park, and some fear that the ride will never reopen.
Once riders-to-be come face to face with the Twisted Twins themselves, they are faced with a choice: Which twin to choose from? Should they ride with Lola on her elegant pink carriages as
they zoom over her smooth airtime hills? Or maybe perhaps Stella on her dazzling blue trains as she navigates tremendous lateral forces. The choice is all up to the riders as they make their way down the long, bending queue. Once into the double-ride station, the two twisted sisters take on twenty-eight passengers each on one of their seven car trains. Once each and every rider is safely fastened in, the twins thunder out of the station perpendicularly. Both trains make a wide S-turn, and then navigate a U-turn directly into the lift hill. As the sisters ascend to the apex of the ride, they face their rivals head on. Finally the trains even out at eighty feet above the ground. Making another wide U-turn, the clicking of the lift hill ceases, and once again the twins find themselves facing each other, this time over fifty feet away from each other. As both trains start their descent, the screaming of those in the opposing train get louder, and louder. Soon, both trains level out traveling at speeds of fifty miles-per-hour, zooming past the opposite train only feet away. Both trains than propel up identical airtime hills, higher, and higher, until they even out at sixty-five feet. From now on, each sibling is on its own. Lola starts her individual journey by descending the airtime hill, and making her way up a highly-banked left turn. Next up comes two more airtime hills right after one another. Following that, Lola travels through a horseshoe, and travels through a U-turn right over the station. Stella on the other hand, has been firing her riders through a highly-banked horseshoe, and a 270 degree fan curve. Next comes another drop, and a banked, upward turn to the right. Now both trains are face-to-face yet again. Lola shoots her riders up another airtime hill, while Stella drops hers down a deep dip, rocketing past each other for a second time. Last up on each sister’s agenda, are banked downward helices, and a final hop into the break run, where each train crawls back into the station.
Now riders must face another question. Ride the same twin again? Or this time take a stroll with her sister? No matter what the choice is, the guests are sure to get a thrilling, unique ride that can only be found at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.
