Blue Flyer

Pleasure Beach, Blackpool

Last Update: May 2, 2011

Blackpool, the name itself rings bells all around the world. Its renowned for its classic sea-side charm and the numerous classic wooden roller coasters in its amusement park, Pleasure Beach. These classic roller coasters vary in size, with some being for the thrill seekers of the world. However, not even roller coaster has to be a thrilling one, as their classic Blue Fyler, formerly known as Zipper Dipper, proves.

The actual constructor of the Zipper Dipper is unknown. It is believed that it was built by Charlie Paige. It is also believed that Harry Traver might have helped design the coaster. However, its known that the coaster first opened in 1934, during the period when the majority of Blackpool's classic woodies opened. Out of all of them, it is the smallest, shortest and slowest, but nether less recognized as an ACE Coaster Classic today.

If guests to Blackpool wants to ride the Blue Flyer, they must go to the new for 2011 Nickelodeon Land. The ride is going through a transitional period, turning from a typical old woodie into a Blue's Clue's themed Blue Flyer. However, regardless of the traditions, its still a classic. Once they're ready to board, they will board onto classic Philadelphia Toboggan Company Trains, which can support 12 riders. The ride is full of classic features, including hand-powered breaks and a lack of seat belts on the trains.

The ride itself is a very short one, lasting a minute. Its length is very short, just under a thousand and a hundred feet and containing only three curves, but managed to fit in three airtime hills and a tunnel into its short, compact layout. Beginning with a lift-hill and a turn, the ride goes down its first drop and over the bunny hills. The ride then goes though its tunnel, steadily declining while turning right before taking a left turn into the brakes.

If you want a fun-size classic, then the Blue Flyer is the ride for you.
