Specific Type: Looping Star
|
Frontier City in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is known for their Wild West theming, great famiy rides and coasters that appeal to everyone. If you are a coaster enthusiast then prepare to be shot out from a Colt 45 as you strap in for a ride on Silver Bullet. Silver Bullet is by far the most intense coaster at Frontier City and one that many say is the best in Oklahoma.
Silver Bullet was originally built in the late 1970s and opened in 1980 in Ocean City Maryland. The ride was then moved and became the star attraction at the Texas State Fair. The ride was named the Looping Star of Texas and operated at the fair until 1983. The coaster was then relocated back to Ocean City Maryland to Jolly Rogers Park where it kept the name of Looping Star. It wasn’t until 1986 that the coaster was moved to Frontier City and got a new element added to it to make it original to the park. The coaster was designed by g.-Büro Stengel GmbH and manufactured by Schwarzkopf. The coaster is your standard Schwarzkopf looping steel coaster that has surprise elements. The park added a tunnel to the coaster to make it even more appealing from a guest’s advantage. Guests arrive at the station and board the silver trains, pulling the restraint down over your thighs and begin their journey to the chain. As you hit the lift hill, you pass all of the white flags telling you it is to late now to turn back. At the top of the lift, the chain releases you and the train drops and veers to the right to give you a view of the highway at speeds of 47 mph. The drop lines you up for the signature element in the coaster and that is the famous Schwarzkopf loop. Once the trains leaves the loop, you have little time to catch your breath as you make a quick turn to the right and then dive under the track that you just came from off the loop. Riders are then hurled back to the left as the train hits an overbanked turn that sends into the dark abyss of a tunnel. The tunnel is a hard banked right hand turn and the train emerges and hits the standard braking package. The train slowly returns to the station and alas you feel like you were shot out of a pistol, ricocheting off items, and then landing softly in the sand. What a day to be at Frontier City! |
