When word came out about the possibility of Kentucky Kingdom reopening in Louisville, Kentucky, there were those who wondered what would become of the coasters that were standing but not operating at the park since it closed. One such coaster was the original Twisted Twins. She was a double tracked dueling wooden roller coaster. When the park reopened in 2015, park officials announced that they would be revamping the ride and hiring Rocky Mountain Construction to turn the old track into a new “steel” roller coaster called Storm Chaser.
Storm Chaser is a steel conversion roller coaster that uses RMC IBox technology to give the ride a smooth feel as a steel coaster but still has the pace of a wooden coaster. One of the big features of this coaster is the barrel roll inverted drop which is the first of its kind in the world. The coaster stands at 100 feet tall and drops at a staggering 78 degrees. The coaster features a stall dive, tip out corner, twisted airtime drop and plenty of air time hills to keep your butts out of your seats. Riders will be lifted to the top with a lift chain and will reach speeds of 52 miles per hour over 2,744 feet of track. Kentucky Kingdom is the place to go for new rides, classic feel, and one heck of a good time. |
