Top Thrill Dragster blasted off today, with its record-smashing speeds of 120 miles per hour and unprecedented height of 420 feet for Cedar Point's 2003 media day to show off their newest scream machine.
Making resedence at the Sandusky, Ohio park as the seventeenth track at Cedar Point, Dragster features 2,800 feet of red and white track, created by Intamin AG following that company's record-breaking additions of 2000 and 2002, Millennium Force and Wicked Twister.
A minor change to the ride's original design are trains of four cars seating a total of 12 riders per circuit with eight trains operating in all, original plans calling for five-car trains.
The long-awaited official opening date for Top Thrill Dragster is set for May 4th when Cedar Point opens for its 133rd season of operation. Bids for first rides aboard the strata-coaster are being accepted on this site, funds raised being donated to charity.
