Annual Kidsfest (June 26-27) and Celebrate America (June30 – July 1) festivities bring extra fun, discounts
WEST MIFFLIN, PA – The first day of summer is here and fun is in full swing at Kennywood!
The last week of June will bring a series of special events to Pittsburgh’s favorite summertime destination.Kidsfest begins June 26, bringing every child’s favorite superheroes, princesses and cartoon characters to West Mifflin for complimentary meet-and-greets over this two-day event! Children can paint their own Kennywood-themed pictures compliments of Paint Monkey, and cap off Kidsfest with a party on June 27 featuring mascots from all over the region for dancing, parades and games! Junior (46” tall or shorter) and adult guests save up to $15 off gate price for Kidsfest when buying tickets through Kennywood.com.
Just a few days later, Independence Day festivities kick off during Celebrate America. From June 30 through July 4, active duty and retired military and veterans get free admission, and can purchase up to 5 additional tickets at 50 percent off normal military rates. They’ll experience special entertainment throughout the park, headlined by a nightly fireworks show! Before then, guests can enjoy live music performances, check out classic cars, and watch ice carving shows in between Kennywood rides and Golden Nugget chocolate-dipped cones.
Civilians can save during Celebrate America, too, with both full-day and Night Rider (after 5 p.m.) tickets heavily discounted when buying online.
“Kidsfest and Celebrate America couple great ticket deals on a day at Kennywood with the added value of entertainment above and beyond what we offer most days,” says Kennywood Marketing Director Chris Salerno. “Whether it’s meeting a favorite character in real-life, enjoying a first roller coaster ride or getting all the fireworks shows you can handle, those looking for fun this summer can find it at Kennywood.”
Celebrate America begins June 30 by going to the dogs. The Silver Star Meats Hot Dog Eating Contest (1 p.m.) and Weiner 100 Dachshund Races (2 p.m.) return with pride and prizes on the line. While the Weiner 100 race lineup is full, those hungering for competition can still enter the Hot Dog Eating Contest by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or sign up at Kennywood on June 30. The person who can down the most dogs in 10 minutes will receive two tickets to a regular season Steelers game, along with pregame on-field passes, VIP tent access, a $25 gift certificate to the Silver Star Meats Deli, and of course, a trophy commemorating their filling accomplishment.
