Back in July, we learned of Kennywood’s plans to unveil The Steel Curtain, a Steelers-themed roller coaster and the anchor of the park’s incoming Steelers Country section. On Tuesday, we were given the first glimpse of the cars that will ride along the 4,000-foot steel tracks.
Kennywood and the manufacturer of the coaster’s vehicles, S&S Worldwide, unveiled the cars at the International Association of Amusement Park and Attractions’ (IAAPA) International Expo in Orlando, Fla.
The design doesn’t require much unpacking — black and gold coloring, football-shaped seats, “33” displayed on the front as a nod to the year the Steelers were founded — but there are some details that might appeal to coaster-heads. The open-style vehicles appear to seat four riders per car, and the restraints are lap-bar only (no over-the-shoulder restraint).
