The Disney name brand has become a symbol of family entertainment across the world. Starting off in Anaheim, Disneyland was the first of what would become a diverse lineup of Disney parks across the world. One of these parks would be Tokyo Disneyland, which would sport some similar attractions to the original Disneyland park in Anaheim. Out of these classics, a coaster would be created to mimic those before and to bring a slice of Americana to Japan, Big Thunder Mountain.
Big Thunder Mountain is one of four Big Thunder Mountain variations, sharing the same name as the Disneyland Paris attraction. Big Thunder Mountain starts with a right hand turn into a dark tunnel and will begin to meander right and left passing dark scenes of bats and old mines. Riders then are taken into a lift hill passing by a cavern and going under a water spout pouring around the train. Big Thunder Mountain then goes along the terrain curving into a left hand drop flaring out into a rock tunnel into another curve around. Riders will then go straight passing the lush western theming going under the overhead bridge with the track above. Big Thunder Mountain then curves left under a tree with several opossum flaring out into a ravine only to go into another tunnel within the mountain. Big Thunder Mountain veers right and left eventually leading out into a mechanical outpost up another lift hill. Riders will see in the distant a goat herd on the peaks of the mountain as they begin the curved drop left into a straight away and back up into a hill. Big Thunder Mountain then makes another left hand helix which goes through a series of tunnels leading out into a hill. Riders then ascend and descend into another tunnel leading to another curve into another lift hill. As riders ascend, they are immersed into the mine scene with a teetering rock and cave in sequence. Cresting the lift, Big Thunder Mountain descends and then ascends into a hill curving left away from the queue as the train then goes into a tunnel curving right. Riders then pop out of the tunnel going through a t-rex skellington going above the faux geyser pools entering into another tunnel. As Big Thunder Mountain meanders the tunnels, riders then pop out into another right hand curve going under the queue and finally returning to the station after a series of turns. Big Thunder Mountain coaster style has been emulated throughout many of the Disney parks, however each having a few of the same elements from the original Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Anaheim. The next time you find yourself in Tokyo, go out west and explore the Big Thunder Mountain. |
