Blazing Fury
Specific Type: Dark Ride
|
Dollywood has found it’s way into the hearts of many over the years. From their thrilling coasters like Lightning Rod, to their southern style food, Dollywood has a little bit for every theme park enthusiast. However, if there is one thing that Dollywood gets right, it is being different. Built by their own staff, Dollywood created a dark ride, that is infact a roller coaster. This coaster has blazed into the hearts and minds of every enthusiast, having interesting layouts and different effects than most coasters. Blazing Fury has become a true classic of the Dollywood coaster line up, blending dark ride thematics with the thrills of a roller coaster. Do you dare to take on this Tennessee thrill?
Riders start off by going into a queue house similar to a small Appalachia town. Once through the queue riders then are seated into small coaster cars that look reminiscent of classic wooden coasters. With a call of “Fire in the hole!” riders race into the dark of this dark ride coaster. Riders first come into a scene of a man sleeping in the night, next to the sounds of birds chirping, and the forested area. This gives riders the impression of actually being in the mountains, as riders pass by waterfalls, and trees creating a peaceful setting. However, this setting turns quickly into disaster as riders are transported into a scene of flames as they enter into town. Buildings on all sides are in flames amidst saloon music. Passing other figures, riders soon realize that this is a nightmare situation, passing red lit windows. Following this, is a classic scene of the attraction of a lady, on top of a hotel porch, is about to jump into a fireman’s trampoline; creating comedic relief found within the attraction. Continuing through the decimation of the town, riders see even more buildings in flames, and soon firemen stopping the fires. Again, another point of comedic relief, is a shack scene that reads of a woman looking for a man. All the while a man and woman are talking in front of the burning house. Into another dark lit area, riders see a covered bridge in flames above as they pass it up. However, this will become the next area as riders meander to the bridge, bypassing a “bridge closed” sign. The bridge slants down and riders descend into the first drop of the attraction. While in the darkness, riders are then pitted against a train quickly coming down the tunnel. This leads into the next drop, under the oncoming train. Riders are soon faced with a wall filled with signage about dynamite. A shout of “Fire in the hole!” and riders plunge into a water pool and back into the station. The beauty of Blazing Fury is the perfect blend of coaster elements and a dark ride experience as both are blended and perfected so well that it is both. The next time you are in the beautiful Smoky Mountain theme park of Dollywood, brave the flames and ride Blazing Fury. |
