If you want something done right you have to do it yourself, or maybe it should be if you want something done your way you have to do it your way. That is exactly what Seabreeze did when they designed and built Bobsleds entirely in-house. Bobsleads was originally named Junior Coaster when it debuted in 1952 as a terrain wooden coaster. In 1968 an upper level was built on the ride and tubular steel track was added to transform this into a hybrid coaster called Bobsleds. The ride runs single cars that resemble bobsleds and can accommodate two across in two rows.
After the riders are aboard their car it departs the station and bumps along with the terrain in small bumps and turns, meandering around under the support structure of the coaster. Around a curve riders find themselves heading up the 31 foot tall lift hill. At the top the track does a sweeping 180 degree turnaround giving riders a chance to see the midway from above. Then the car rolls down the main drop under a tree branch, reaching the maximum speed of 23 MPH. The track leads the car right back up to another turnaround, that has an oddly placed dip in the middle of the gentle turn. The car continues to dip and turn through the wooden structure. A downward spiraling helix brings the riders down to the brake run and station. The short 1,240 foot circuit completed its very quirky and unique layout offering an experience that can only be found at Seabreeze. |
