Busch Gardens Africa is usually known for stunning Bolliger and Mabillard coasters such as Kumba, Montu, and SheiKra. However, for the 2011 season Busch Gardens Africa decided to go in a different direction. Instead of a new B&M creation Busch Gardens decided to go in a different direction by calling in Intamin to bring them a new coaster. Thus, Cheetah Hunt, the first major new coaster for Busch Gardens Africasince the addition of SheiKra in 2005, was born.
New for 2011, Cheetah Hunt will be racing through Busch Gardens Africa. Featuring a 60 miles per hour linear synchronous motor (LSM) launch, several quick twists and turns, and a 130 foot drop, Cheetah Hunt is one wild ride. In addition to a twisted layout,Cheetah Hunt will also feature an in depth theme. The track races through several themed trenches and past several theming elements all while aboard trains that are modeled to resemble a cheetah. The front of the train is made to resemble the head of a cheetah while stripes flow down the side of the trains. From the moment riders sit down in the train they are immersed into the middle of a hunt with a cheetah. The ride begins with a launch right into a rising left hand turn. Upon reaching the crest of the turning hill the track dives right back down into a trench before straightening out and preparing for another launch. Next up is one of Cheetah Hunt’s signature elements. The train rises up a hill before going through an elevated figure eight of turns. After completing the turns the train dives down into a deep trench. Next up is a rising right turn, but at the crest of the hill the track banks hard to the left and the train heads down the other side of the hill in a left turn. After a near miss with a bridge and a trip through a trench the train goes into a rising right hand turn. At the top of the turn comes Cheetah Hunt’s only inversion, a roll that ends with the track being unbanked as the train slides into a mid-course break run. After the quick set of brakes, the train dives down into a descending right turn that leaves the train heading back in the direction it just came from. Next up is a right turn as the train gets into a twisted little section of track. The track goes from banked to the right, to the left, back to the left, and to the right one more time before traveling through a right turn. Next up is another launch right into an airtime hill. After the hill is a bank to the left as the track rises, banks back to the right, and dives. The track slides into a rising left hand turn. At the top of the turn the track does a quick banking transition before diving back down to the left again. One more small hill is all that is left before the track slides into the final brakes. Cheetah Hunt adds to the fantastic collection of Busch Gardens Africa’s rides, so get on down to Tampa to join in on the hunt! |
