Playland Park is a classic amusement park on the Long Island Sound in New York. The park is a historic place and is home to classic rides and coasters, but also modern thrill and family attractions too. The park has gone through various changes throughout the years, and a variety of operators. It is currently operated by the county of Westchester, but recently they voted to allow Standard Amusement to take over operations in 2018. The park has had periods of boom and stagnation. Starting in 2001 they replaced all of the parks non-classic status coasters with three more modern steel coasters. In 2003 they added the Crazy Mouse, a wild mouse layout from Zamperla. The coaster features single car trains that bounce through a series of tight switchback turns and sudden drops. This wild mouse features cars that look like nervous mice complete with a perplexed face on the front to a tail pointing high into the air behind the riders. Each delightfully detailed cars hold 4 riders in two rows of two.
Riders are greeted as they approach the loading area by a retro modern metal awning juxtaposed in front of the art deco entranceway to the park. Above the awning is a simple yet whimsical light up sign that reads, Crazy Mouse. Once you hop aboard your mouse and your lap bar is locked you make a right hand turn and are faced with the lift hill. On your way to the top you pass through hoops that surround the track, and are illuminated if you visit at night. From the top riders are treated to a series of 180 degree switchback turns. The combination of the cars being wider than the track and the track being unbanked gives the sensation that the car is going to come off the tracks and crash. Next the cars swoop through a series of dips and hops offering a family amount of airtime and excitement. The mouse car scurries back into the station to pick up its next riders. |
