Specific Type: Spinning Coaster
|
One of the most unique rides of the 1990s was the influx of spinning roller coasters, especially on the continent of Europe. One of the most recognizable coasters is at Europa Park in Rust, Germany. Guests flock to the queue lines waiting to ride Euro-Mir. Franz Mack from Mack Rides was the lead designer of this roller coaster and he wanted to give the guests a feeling as though they are on a trip to the space station Mir and then a return back to Earth.
The ride structure is built on 5 cylindrical towers as the track weaves on and around them. The coaster cars are not like most spinning coasters as these are spun by motors that are set to spin at certain times on the ride. Most other spinning coasters are free spinning. The coaster climbs to a height of 92 feet and spans 3,215 feet of track. Mack Rides installed the ride in Europa Park in 1997 and the ride has been operating ever since. The coaster carries nine trains each of which has four spinning cars that travel upwards of 50 mph. Below you will find a written POV of the ride so please enjoy! As guest enter the queue lines for Euro-Mir, one cannot help but look up at the great theming and massive towers that the track is assembled on and around. Once you arrive at the station, you step into one of the spinning cars, pull the lap bar down over your legs, and stare at the person in front of you as you are seated back to back! The ride begins inside as the cars spin around giving you a panoramic view of stars, spacemen, and other outer space materials. The train continues up the helix tower to the top for almost 2 minutes with theming and darkness abounding. As you reach daylight, the car begins to spin along the track running outside of the tower. The cars then travel on track between the towers continuing to spin. The views from the track are amazing of the city and park below. You reach the drop as you spin and descend to the right picking up massive speed. The car stops spinning as you bank right and then bank left around towers at a quick pace. You are now re-entering space as you hit the mid-course brake run. A high bank speed tun to the left and then to the right, through a tunnel, into a 180 turn leaves you wanting more. The coaster banks hard to the left and finishes into the station for the brakes. |
