Ghoster Coaster at Canada's Wonderland
Specific Type: Wooden Junior
|
The Ghoster Coaster is a junior wooden coaster at Canada’s premier amusement park, Canada’s Wonderland. The Ghoster Coaster was built in 1981 as Scooby's Gasping Ghoster Coaster by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. They built similar models at a series of parks with the Scooby Doo theme like at; Carowinds, Kings Island, & Kings Dominion. These coasters were all given a Peanuts theme when the parks changes hands from Paramount to Cedar Faire. The Canada’s Wonderland coaster was called Ghoster Coaster and is adorned with a spooky Snoopy over the entrance & is the centerpiece of Planet Snoopy, the rest are now called Woodstock Express. This classic wooden coaster introduced many Canadians to their first coaster. This coaster used to hold the distinction of being an ACE Coaster Classic, however this honor was rescinded when changes were made to the trains. These trains are different than the larger counterparts, and are actually more similar to traditional railroad cars. These junior trains do not have guide wheels, they have articulating flanged wheels.
The riders board their trains two per row, two rows per car, and five cars per train. The buzz bars lock into position and the train creeps out of the station in a slow right hand turn to line up with the 41 foot tall lift hill. The train glides down the main drop of this figure eight coaster at a family friendly 35 MPH. The coaster ascends and negotiates a turnaround and drops again towards the lift where is goes over a bunny hill and up into another turn around. It repeats arounds itself and delivers the train back to the station to conclude its 1,356 foot long circuit. The Ghoster Coaster delivers adults back to their childhood and makes children wish they were taller and ready for more thrills. |
