Gilbeau's Galaxi
Specific Type: Galaxi
|
Blue Bayou Dixie Landin’ has been operating an S.D.C. Galaxi, called Gilbeau’s Galaxi, since 2001. This Galaxi has been on the move before, but it has always remained in Louisiana. It is unknown when it was originally installed at its first home at Pontchartrain Beach where it was simply known as Galaxi. It was removed in 1977, and moved to Fun Fair Park for the 1978 season. It remained there until the 1999 season when it was removed again and eventually installed at Blue Bayou Dixie Landin’ where it retained the original “Galaxi” signage over the station, but the name was changed to Gilbeau’s Galaxi.
The ride experience starts with a climb to the top of the lift where cars enter their first turn around, and then dip into the main drop gathering speed to reach a maximum of about 31 MPH. The main features on the Galaxi are the two helices. They are slightly banked and dominate the ride experience by spinning the train 520 degrees on each side of the figure 8 layout. The track length is 1099 feet long and the ride lasts about two minutes. |
