Specific Type: Free Spin

In 2014 Six Flags unveiled a plan to put in a new roller coaster at their Fiesta Texas location called Batman: The Ride. This left many people scratching heads since this park had a B&M invert that is typically called Batman: The Ride, but at this park it is called Goliath. The ride being installed was a new model by S&S designed as a compact 4D free fly coaster. It had wing mounted seats that rotate 360 degrees as the ride moves through the track. This seemingly haphazard approach to naming infuriated coaster nerds everywhere, as their attention often turned to neighboring park, Six Flags Over Texas who had a proper Batman: The Ride. This move left so many confused and enraged, but in 2016 Six Flags announce that Six Flags Over Texas would be getting an S&S Freefly too, however this one was named Joker. So now there is a synergy between the two parks; Fiesta Texas has Batman & Over Texas has Joker. So Texans can ride as a hero or a villain.
The layout of the ride and experience will be the same but the color scheme will match the villain who it was named for. The track and supports are painted green and purple, alternating from one side to the other. The riders will board one of five cars, each car has a pair of seats on each side facing one another. So half the riders face forward for only half the ride, then they switch. The cars go up a vertical lift hill with the seats jiggling back and forth on the way up. The cars have “fins” on them that induce movement from LIMs on the track. Once the cars make it to the top at 120 feet the craziness begins. The cars negotiates a series on hills where the seats will rock back and forth, but spin all the way around when induced by the LIMs. This makes the flips smooth and unpredictable. The trains do a raven turn, a greater than 90 degree drop down to the middle layer of track, that features a very similar series of hills with LIMs. If you were facing forward you are now facing backwards or vica versa. Another raven turn brings the car down to the brake run and then it is lowered to the bottom level to swap riders. The ride experience is very different that other free spinning or 4D coasters. Joker is sure to create maniacal laughter to all who ride. |
