Specific Type: Dive Coaster
|
Heide Park in Lower Saxony, Germany has really been adding world class coasters in the past five years and it all started with the addition of Germany’s first ever Dive coaster called Krake. In 2009 it was widely speculated that the park was going receive a new roller coaster. In 2010, the rumors became true when the park began working on a special project called Monster 2011. Later that year, track pieces began arriving at the park and it was confirmed that the park was getting its first ever dive coaster. The ride was built by Bollinger and Mabillard and was constructed on site by RCS a German construction company.
The coaster was initially designed to have riders dive into an Octopus mouth, but the coaster did not open up with this element and many were upset about the false advertisement. The element was added a year later. The coaster spans a track of 1,562 feet and stands at 135 feet tall. The coaster has three trains that seat 6 guests across in three rows. The trains are standard Dive Coaster trains and have cups on the back to pick up the water in the splashdown element. Below you will find a written POV of this unprecedented coaster. Enjoy the ride and try to escape the jaws of the octopus! As riders enter the queue area, the sound of splashdown is heard from all around you. As you reach the station, the train pulls up and you take your seat in one of six seats. Pull down the brown OTSR and get prepared for the ride to the top. The floor drops and the gate in front of you goes away. The train starts out of the station and you immediately see the pirate theming. Once at the top of the lift hill, the train continues going straight for a short period before making a left turn into the holding brake. After about three seconds, the train descends the 87-degree drop and reaches a speed of 64 mph. At the bottom, the train enters the "monster's" mouth, followed by a splashdown. Then, the train goes through an Immelmann loop. After going over an airtime hill, the train makes a banked right turn into the final brake run. The train makes a left turn into the brake run before entering the station. |
