Specific Type: Custom Looping Coaster
|
After all these years, speculation, and rumors, everyone is still wrong. The Loch Ness Monster doesn’t live in Scotland, it thrives in Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Virginia, better known as Busch Gardens Europe. The Loch Ness Monster was Busch Gardens Europes’s first roller coaster to take advantage of the scenery and terrain already at the park. The ride was the first coaster to feature interlocking loops and one of the two remaining coasters that have this feature, along with the Orient Express at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri. Loch Ness is also one of the few coasters to feature two separate lift hills. The Loch Ness Monster was designed by Ron Toomer and created by Arrow Dynamics, which also later created the suspended Big Bad Wolf and multi-looping Drachen Fire (now defunct) at the same park.
After the riders board the train, it rolls out of the station and into a U-turn that takes it to the first lift hill. Once the riders slowly climb their way to the top of the lift hill, it’s just a short 90-degree turn and the train flies down the first hill of around 114 feet. The riders reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour as they fly down the hill and over the murky, green water below. After the drop, the train does a quick 180 and it plunges into the highest of the interlocking loops. Next, the riders roll through a slight left turn and then into some quick trim brakes. Once through the brakes, the riders dive into the thrilling double downwards helix that is entirely enclosed in a rock-like formation! The Loch Ness then slides out of the helix and into a small left turn into the second of the lift hills. At the top of the lift hill, the train goes through a quick U-turn and then drops down the hill and into the lower of the interlocking loops. The riders then sail into a right turn and the train climbs to the brakes and straight to the station to conclude a thrilling ride with a great location and scenery to back it up. Next time you’re at Busch Gardens Europe, take a ride on the legendary beast The Loch Ness Monster. |
