In the late 1990’s E&F Miler Industries were tapped to make a series of kid friendly roller coasters for the chain of Paramount Parks, that are now owned by Cedar Fair. California’s Great America got their installation in 1999 for a kiddie coaster named Taxi Jam. In 2015 they renamed the ride to Lucy’s Crabbie Cabbies, and gave it a Peanuts theme to complement the Planet Snoopy area where it resides.
As guests enter the taxi stand they are greeted by a bright yellow train themed to taxi cabs. Each car holds two riders in a single row and there are six cars per train. Once the train is locked and checked it is dispatched up the 15 foot tall lift hill. At the top the young riders get a brief view of a billboard with a comic strip featuring Lucy. The train rolls down the main drop and reaches its top speed of 15 MPH. The track goes over a small river and then into a tight banked U-turn to the left. The train bounds over a series of bunny hops before banking around another turn than lines the train up with the station. But we are going to leave the meter running, the taxi train glides right through and back up the lift for a second lap. Once the second lap is complete the train comes to a stop and passengers depart. |
