Specific Type: Family Inverted Coaster
|
Dutch Wonderland, a park many in Pennsylvania know is a place for smaller family friendly thrills. A park that, instead of focusing on major attractions, focuses on building memories for children and parents to last for decades to come. That premise has been the key until 2017 however, as the park made the choice to expand their lineup to add a new more thrilling family coaster. Merlin’s Mayhem, a S&S Worldwide coaster, will become the first suspended coaster to hit Dutch Wonderland’s lineup, and would be the first step into modern thrills. Unfortunately because of construction delays and technical problems the ride was unable to open until spring 2018.
Merlin’s Mayhem’s story actually involves Merlin’s quest to find his dragon, Mayhem. Riders are told this tale throughout the queue of their relationship which will transfer to onride audio to help riders find his lost dragon. Once riders are strapped in, they will begin a 60 ft ascent to the top of the lift hill. Once Merlin and his riders have crested the lift hill, riders take a small dip right turn that goes into a right turn into the second but major drop. This drop will take riders into a low to the ground helix, followed by a hop over the track as it curves into another helix. Riders then take another curved dip, however this time going through a tunnel. Riders then level out and make a right turn into the station. Merlin’s Mayhem is the perfect story book coaster as it takes riders on a thrilling journey but weaves a tale by on ride audio; the perfect duo for a park like Dutch Wonderland. The next time you are in whimsical Pennsylvania, travel to Dutch Wonderland and help Merlin find his dragon on Merlin’s Mayhem. |
