Fun Spot America in Florida has been a family owned alternative to the large corporate parks that dominate Florida tourism. Fun Spot has two locations one in Orlando & the second in Kissimmee. The Kissimmee location added their third and largest rollercoaster for the summer of 2017. Mine Blower, a gold mine themed coaster designed by The Gravity Group, offers an explosive experience for guests who are willing to take a lap. The park started out primarily as a fun park with go-carts, where guests controlled the action. The park evolved over time adding more and varied attractions, and this most recent addition will peel many thrill seekers away from the mouse and out to Fun Sport where you can experience something very unique. The park invested six million dollars for this coaster, its largest single investment to date. For their investment they get Florida’s first wooden roller coaster to go upside down, and twelve airtime moments all jam packed into a compact 2,290 foot long layout.
When guests enter the station the will board one of two custom Timberliner Trains. The lead cars look like something out of a wile e coyote plot, complete with comical large red TNT charges. Once you strap into your explosive train it begins its climb up the 83 foot tall lift hill. At the top the track makes a tight u-turn with a slight bank and dip before the main drop. The train rips down the 65 degree drop achieving the maximum speed of 48.5MPH at the bottom. The train soars over the station with a long corkscrew, the signature element of the ride. Once you are right side up the track banks hard to the left and cuts through the structure aiming the riders towards the opposite side of the layout. The train races over three airtime elements and cuts through the structure again and tears into another hard banked turn at breakneck speed. The sensation of speed is amplified by the beams whizzing by the track as the train hits another airtime hill, and then a quick shift to the left. The train banks hard to the right as it does a 115 degree overbanked turn, and then a gentle turn to the left as the track cuts deep through the structure of the ride. Totally surrounded by a thick lattice of the support structure the train traverses another airtime hill and a tight turn around. Another airtime hill pops riders out of their seats and the train slams into the brake run. Riders are left gasping for breath as they complete their lap on this intense action packed woodie. |
