Adventureland in Des Moines, Iowa surprised everyone in 2015 when they announced they would be receiving a new roller coaster that would the first of its kind in the United States. The beloved log flume that was in the center of the park was going to be removed because of high maintenance and the fact that there were no parts to help fix the ride. Park officials announced that they would be building an Infiinty coaster called Monster. Monster is very similar to the Smiler roller coaster at Alton Towers in the United Kingdom and was built by Gerstlauer.
The ride is a vibrant green color that stands out as the new focal point of the park. Riders experience a lift hill that takes them up 133 feet and drops them at a staggering 101 degree angle which is one of the steepest in the world. The coaster trains reach a top speed of 65 miles per hour and traverses over 2,500 feet of track. The coaster features elements such as a Dive Loop, an Omega Loop, and an Immelman Loop. The coaster also features great amounts of airtime in a compact footprint. The coaster was a cheap purchase for the park at 9 million and thrills riders with the unique layout. Next time you are in the heartland of America, check out the green Monster. |
