When you think of the Wisconsin Dells you probably think of synchronized, choreographed, water skiing beauties. At Mt. Olympus, in the Wisconsin Dells, you should also think of wooden roller coasters. For three consecutive years, 1995-97, Mt. Olympus had Custom Coasters International (CCI) install their first three roller coasters. Custom Coasters International was formed by famous roller coaster designer Charles Dinn’s son and daughter in 1991. CCI was credited with a resurgence of building wooden coasters while building 34 coasters starting with small compact designs and growing to create some of the wildest and most extreme modern wooden coasters.
Starting in 1995 Mt. Olympus installed a trio of Greek themed wooden roller coasters at their park. Pegasus is the middle child of the trio. Pegasus was designed to be a family coaster topping out at 60 feet, featuring a drop of 45 feet, and a layout that stretches over 1600 feet. Riders leave the station and dip to the right before climbing the lift hill nestled under a few rows of trees. As the trains descend with a slight bend the view opens up and you are greeted by a small airtime hill. The train turns to the left and goes through a series of small dips and banks back towards the right. The return run has three more hills of varying size to keep riders on their toes, before entering the break run. The ride duration is about 1:20. The ride is perfect for a younger rider’s first wooden coaster. Mt. Olympus offers three other more extreme coasters when the little rider is ready to graduate to taller and faster rides. |
