What are you afraid of? Lake Compounce thinks they know, and they think you will enjoy it. Phobia Phear Coaster is Lake Compounce’s second steel high thrills coaster at this quaint New England park built nestled into a hillside in Bristol, CT. Phobia Phear Coaster is a welcome addition to Lake Compounce’s coaster line-up coming 16 years after their previous installation. They are the home to Wildcat a classic woodie from 1921, a Vekoma Boomerang called Zoomerange, a Kiddie Coaster with an oval layout, and Boulder Dash an epic wooden terrain coaster. The Phobia Phear Coaster is the third Premier Skyrocket II model that has been installed in the United States joining the company of Superman: Ultimate Flight from Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, and Tempesto at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. This triple launch coaster occupies the space that once was home to the Enterprise, and stands at 150’ tall painted bright purple and orange. The sign and logo even features mini twisted tracks letting riders know that they will phace their phear.
The ride begins with a forward launch almost straight up, but the train fails to reach to the top, and riders fall backwards towards the station where they are met with a backwards launch. This launch propels the train even faster up and partway through the last element backwards giving riders a view straight out across the park. The train falls again into the station and riders experience the third launch pushing the speed to its max at 65 mph, straight up through a 180 degree twist and around the top. As the train clears the apex riders crests the highest point, and are treated to an in-line twist offering plenty of hang time and testing your bravery with only a lap bar to keep you in. Without a chance to recover the train dives straight down and twists 180 degrees to right as it enters the bottom of a non-inverting loop. You will crest the loop with a twist. This allows the train to ride on top of the loop and then twist again as the train dives back down into the station. Passing the load/unload area at speed one more time you climb, but fail to reach the top and drop backwards into the brakes as you return to the station to finish your ride. The decision is yours, do you can call your shrink for therapy, or get back on the train and phace your phear. |
