In October 2014, Walibi Belgium announced that a new attraction was incoming. This attraction would be a roller coaster from the German manufacturer MACK Rides. A few months later, it is discovered that this attraction would be a first of its kind water coaster attraction. Eventually, in February 2015, Walibi Belgium unveils Pulsar, the first ever PowerSplash. The PowerSplash is a shuttle roller coaster featuring three separate launches, as well a climactic water splashdown after the third launch. This is the first water ride to use an LSM launching system. The ride utilizes a valve system that can quickly fill the water levels of the tracked area to the same water level as the lake, and then quickly drained out for the next ride cycle. Pulsar is themed around an energy eruption, with the name referring to one of the possible ends for a dying star, a rotating neutron star that emits large amounts of radiation.
As park guests traverse the queue awaiting their splashdown, they come into contact with multiple videos. One of these videos shows walls crumbling due to the sheer power of the emitted radiation, only building the anticipation further for the riders’ imminent thrilling and chilling experience. Soon, riders board their vessel and lock themselves in for a thrill quite unlike any other. The boat is launched backwards, somewhat slowly over a small hill and partially up one of the vertical spikes. Riders come down the spike, facing forwards, and race over a short straight section of track where they will soon learn why this is known as a PowerSplash. The boat runs over the small hill again before hitting the LSM launching system in the station, catapulting the boat up towards the top of the other vertical spike. The boat drops like a rock back into the launch track, while going backwards, for the third and final launch, blasting riders over the small hill and through the straight track towards the vertical spike. The boat climbs the third vertical spike, and soon enough, the boat plummets back into the straightaway and riders experience the full force of a pulsar with the massive, powerful splash of water, soaking riders, as well as exhilarating them like never before. The boat crawls over the small hill and back into the station, and the dripping riders disembark, knowing they have experienced a thrilling and soaking technological marvel. |
